Bogie Exchange System

Overview
Andrew Engineering’s Bogie Exchange System provides a unique solution to Rolling stock maintenance. Designed to be installed in any facility using standard civils only, this exchange system is ideal for upgrading existing equipment or for significant cost savings in the construction of a new plant.
Its modular design allows it to be used as a single station, or entire car set change out solution. With a car body lift of only 50mm the BES allows other rolling stock maintenance procedures to be conducted simultaneously with the bogie exchange, enabling faster turn around of rolling stock.

System Components
The Bogie Exchange System is comprised of seven major components.
The Drop Machine.
Designed to traverse along a standard depot pit with elevated rail. It is controlled by a secure RF pendant allowing for easy movement between stations. When in position the Drop Machine becomes the Control Centre, linking all the BES components together.
Witha 10.5T lifting capacity and a vertical traverse of 695mm, the Drop Machine can be used on a wide variety of Rolling Stock

Side Shifter
Nested upon the Drop Machine, the Side Shifter provides an adjustable lifting platform for a range of Bogies. It can accommodate various wheel centers with minimal manual intervention, and the wheel chocks can be adjusted for different gauges.
The Side Shifter is guided by a keyway cast into the concrete and is driven from underneath the Rolling Stock, carrying the Bogie out to the service road for change over.

Removable Rails
Locked into position and providing tractive return when Rolling stock is driven into the depot, the rails are then opened to allow the side shifter to traverse to the service road . The rails are designed to Bridge Standards and are available in two lengths, the standard of 3800mm and an extra long measuring 4620mm.
With a crossover load rating of 30.5T the Removable rails can handle most rolling stock currently in service.

Car BodyJacks
The Car Body Jacks provide a fail safe synchronous lifting system for the Car Body. With inbuilt load sensors and dual encoders the Jacks can detect if they are in the jacking points correctly and halt lifting to prevent Rolling stock damage.
Combining digital and analogue encoders ensures that the car body is always lifted evenly, without constant visual inspection from operators.
The standard BES Jacks have a SWL of 12.5T each, a range of jacks are available to suit all Rolling Stock.

Manual Hoists
Hydraulically operated hoists designed to lift the Bogie from the Side Shifter and place it on the service road. The hoists can be designed with individual rigging solutions for any Bogie type.
The Hoists are synchronous providing a safe, even lift. The SWL of each hoist is 5.4T
All lifting equipment is designed to the relevant Australian Standard.

Bogie Lift Platform
Hydraulically operated scissor lifts are provided to move Bogies from the service road to the Ground level.Working independently of the rest ofthe BES and with a SWL of 10.5T the lift platforms can be used to transfer Bogies at any stage during the changeover cycle.
The Lift Platform has an independent control system. The lift mechanism is fully enclosed and complies with all plant safety requirements.

Turntable
The Turntables are rated to a 30.5T crossoverload. With an independent control system allowing indexing of 90 degree increments.Set into a pit with minimal civil cost, the turntables allow both Bogies and lightrolling stock to be transferred throughout the facility.

Custom Solutions
